Frequently Asked Questions

Processing time depends on your Mac and the length of the audio file. On Apple Silicon Macs (M1/M2/M3/M4), most songs process in 1-2 minutes thanks to GPU acceleration.

TrackSplit automatically uses your Mac's GPU for the fastest possible processing.

Input formats:

  • MP3 (recommended)
  • WAV
  • FLAC
  • M4A / AAC
  • AIFF

Output formats: MP3 (high quality 320kbps) or WAV (lossless)

No! TrackSplit works completely offline. All AI processing happens locally on your Mac. This means:

  • Your audio files never leave your computer
  • No upload/download waiting times
  • Complete privacy - nobody else can access your music
  • Works anywhere, even without WiFi

TrackSplit can separate any song into 6 distinct stems:

  • Vocals - Lead and backing vocals
  • Drums - Drum kit, percussion
  • Bass - Bass guitar, synth bass
  • Guitar - Electric and acoustic guitars
  • Piano - Piano, keys, synths
  • Other - Everything else (strings, horns, effects)

This gives you maximum flexibility when removing or isolating instruments.

TrackSplit uses state-of-the-art AI for audio separation. Quality ratings:

  • Vocals: Excellent - clean isolation, minimal artifacts
  • Drums: Very Good - great transient definition
  • Bass: Good - clear separation for most songs
  • Guitar/Piano: Good - works well for distinct parts

What to expect: Results are excellent for karaoke, practice, DJing, and creative projects. Some minor artifacts may occur on complex passages.

TrackSplit is a tool - how you use it determines legality:

  • Personal use: Generally allowed (practice, learning, private karaoke)
  • Your own music: Always allowed - you own the rights
  • Commercial use: Depends on the original song's license and your jurisdiction

Always respect copyright laws. When in doubt, use royalty-free music or get permission from rights holders.

Troubleshooting

App won't open or crashes on launch

  1. Make sure you're running macOS 11.0 or later
  2. Try restarting your Mac
  3. If downloaded from our website, right-click the app and select "Open" the first time
  4. Check System Preferences > Security & Privacy for any blocked apps

Processing is very slow

  1. Close other resource-intensive applications
  2. Make sure your Mac is plugged in (laptops throttle on battery)
  3. Check Activity Monitor for high CPU/memory usage from other apps

Output sounds distorted or has artifacts

  1. This can happen with highly compressed or low-quality source files - try using higher quality inputs
  2. Very complex passages (many overlapping instruments) may have more artifacts
  3. This is a limitation of current AI technology, not a bug

File won't import

  1. Make sure the file is a supported format (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, AIFF)
  2. Check that the file isn't corrupted - try playing it in another app first
  3. Very short files (under 10 seconds) may not process correctly
